I saw this on the homepage triggered by a recent review...it is so "grate" that these tunes survived and they sound so SWEET!!!

the cannon jug stompers, with gus cannon on banjo and jug playing viola blues on 28-09-20:

(btw: 9-20 is always special to me since it is my b-date, though in 28 my mother was 3 so I wasn't even a dream...)

Fix my supper, mama, let me go to
Let me go to bed, indeed Lord
Fix my supper, let me go to bed
I've been drinking white lightning, and it just gone to my head

also, here is the band doing minglewood blues on 28-01-30:

of course not to be confused with new minglewood blues or all new minglewood blues...

ENJOY!!!

Unbelievable ! It sounds so crisp.. I remember buying a cd collection of Son House from the library of congress collection and it doesn't sound nearly as good as this.. nor do most of my Robert Johnson stuff.

Thanks so much for posting this.
I really dig that one of the keywords it's listed under is Hokum.. My grandfather used that word a lot and seeing it made me smile ; )

Wow this is what I'm talkin about. This is the only other stuff that does it for me like the Dead did. I don't think I've heard this groups version but I've heard other early recordings of this song.
Since I'm relatively new compared to others to the old recording scene, catching something like this is always a new frontier for me {like listening to a brand new record the first time}. Gonna listen to that Minglewood now.
Thanks
